Mr Narendra Modi

Life story of Narendra Modi

I don`t have enough words to describe such a great personality. But I will try my best to describe him.

On 17 September, Narendra Modi was born 1950 in Vadnagar, Mehsana district, Bombay State (present-day Gujarat). He was third among his six brothers and sisters. His father name was Damodardas Mulchand Mod and his mother`s name was Hiraben Modi. His family was a grocer. Basically, he belongs to, Modh-Ghanchi-Teli community, which is categorised as OTHER BACKWARD CLASS in India according to Indian Government. At that time there were lots of discrimination in the Indian society.

During his childhood, he helped his father to sell tea near the Vadnagar railway station and later he ran a tea stall with his brother near a bus terminus. When Narendra Modi was eight years old he discovered about RSS( Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh). Then he began attending its training session. During his session in RSS, he met Lakshmanrao Inamdar. Lakshmanrao Inamdar, popularly known as Vakil Saheb, was one of the founding father of RSS in Gujrat. He introduced Modi as balswayamsevak ( junior cadet in RSS ) and became his political mentor. Narendra Modi completed his higher secondary education in 1967. A teacher of Narendra Modi described him as an average student who has an eager debater. When Modi was doing raining with RSS, he also met Vasant Gajendragadkar and Nathalal Jaghda. They were Bharatiya Jana Sangh leader and the founding members of BJP`s Gujrat unit in 1980.

Modi spent the following 2 years move across Northern and North-eastern India, although few details of wherever he went have emerged. In interviews, Modi has delineated visiting Hindu ashrams established by Swami Vivekananda, the Belur Math close to Kolkata, followed by the Advaita Ashrama in Almora and the Ramakrishna Mission in Rajkot. Modi remained only a brief time at every since he lacked the required college education. Vivekananda has been delineated as a huge influence in Modi's life.

In 1978, Narendra Modi received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from school of open learning at Delhi University. Later, after five years, in 1983 he got his Master of Arts degree in political science from Gujarat University.

This was his life before coming to politics. Now let`s talk about how he started his political career.

In Juen 1975, when Prime Minister Indra Gandhi declared the state of emergency, many of her political opponents were jailed and groups were banned. Gujarat Lok Sangharsh Samiti, an RSS group contributing against the emergency in Gujarat, appointed Modi as general secretary. Soon RSS was also banned. Modi was forced to go underground and travel frequently in disguise to avoid jail. During the emergency, in his travel, Modi often disguises to a monk, sometime Sikh and many other.

In 2001, Keshubhai Patel's health was failing and the BJP lost a few state assembly seats in by-elections. Allegations of abuse of power, corruption and poor administration were created, and Patel's standing had been broken by his administration's handling of the earthquake in Bhuj in 2001. The BJP national leadership wished a replacement candidate for the chief ministership, and Modi, who had expressed misgivings regarding Patel's administration, was chosen as a replacement. Although BJP leader L. K. Advani did not want to ostracise Patel and was involved concerning Modi's lack of experience in government, Modi declined an offer to be Patel's deputy chief minister, telling Advani and Atal Bihari Vajpayee that he was "going to be completely in charge for Gujarat or not at all". On 3 Oct 2001 he replaced Patel as Chief Minister of Gujarat, with the responsibility of making ready the BJP for the December 2002 elections. Modi was sworn in as Chief Minister on 7 Oct 2001,[80] and entered the Gujarat state assembly on 24 Feb 2002 by winning a by-election to the Rajkot – II body, defeating Ashwin Mehta of the INC by 14,728 votes.

After this Narendra Modi became Chief Minister of Gujarat for three more times and a huge amount of development in Gujrat.

In Sept 2013 Modi was named the BJP's candidate for prime minister for the 2014 Lok Sabha election. Several BJP leaders expressed opposition to Modi's candidature, including BJP founding member L. K. Advani, who cited concern with leaders who were "concerned with their personal agendas". Modi vies a dominant role within the BJP's election campaign. Several those that voted for the BJP declared that if Modi had not been the prime ministerial candidate, they would have voted for another party. The focus on Modi as an individual was uncommon for a BJP election campaign. The election was delineated as a vote on Narendra Modi.

Modi targeted on the corruption scandals underneath the previous government and vie on his image as a politician who had created a high rate of GDP growth in Gujarat, during election campaign Modi projected himself as a person who could bring about "development," without the focus on any specific policies. His message found support among young Indians and among lower-middle-class voters.
The BJP won 31% of the vote and became the first party to win a majority of seats on its own since 1984.

So, this was the story of Narendra Damodar Das Modi. Hopefully, you liked the article. See you in the next article soon.
